World Autism Awareness Day, April 2 – Light it up blue

Posted on 30 March 2015 by Marian Padure

April 2 has been declared International Autism Awareness Day by the United Nations. The colour of this day is blue (Light it up blue), recommending the wearing of clothing with this colour, as well as lighting up areas or buildings in significant community areas (parks, schools, hospitals, etc.) in blue. On this day, actions to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders take place all over the world.

On this occasion, the team and volunteers of the Bureau for Students with Disabilities of Babeș-Bolyai University will participate in the following actions:

  • 8:00-10:00 – marking the International Autism Day by offering decorative items made within the BSD (blue masks in the form of butterflies) and animal-assisted activities (with the therapy dog Loki), at the County Community Centre (14 Einstein Street).

  • 11:30-14:30 – BSD friends and volunteers will participate in the Open Day of Autism Transylvania Association (Gh Marinescu Str. nr.86), where, together with colleagues from Pet Joy Dog Training School (human and dog teams), we will celebrate Autism Day through dynamic games with children diagnosed with autism and their parents.

  • 18:00-20:00 – BSD team and volunteers (UBB students and alumni), together with children and staff of Autism Transylvania Association, will participate in the Light it up blue flashmob, dedicated to Autism Awareness Day, in front of the Casino building in Central Park, which will be lit up in blue.

You we look forward to celebrating World Autism Day together.
