International Down Syndrome Day – BSD & DNA

Posted on 18 March 2015 by Marian Padure

Where: Vasile Geleriu Hall (Babeș Sports Park, Cluj-Napoca – we recommend the entrance on Plopilor Street, opposite the tram station).

When: 21.03.2015 (Saturday), between 14:00 – 16:00

21 March is declared World Down Syndrome Day (www.worlddownsyndromeday.org) – 21.03 = trisomy 21, i.e. an extra chromosome next to the chromosome pair 21. This day is part of World Rare Disease Month, when it is recommended that people wear denim-blue denim jeans as a sign of awareness of the genes that each of us carries in our cells.  Down Syndrome Day will be celebrated by members and friends of the UBB Office for Students with Disabilities (UBB students and alumni), through the Be active together sports programme, together with children with Down syndrome, their parents and educators.

The programme on Saturday dedicated to Down Syndrome Day will include para-agility exercises and interactive games with dog teams and people from Pet Joy Dog Training School, Cluj-Napoca. In addition to other surprises for children, all participants will receive a blue ribbon from BSD, symbolizing the Global Genes emblem of awareness of our genes and rare diseases.

We look forward to seeing you.
