Workshop “Accessibility at university” – from the experience of a Swiss Office for Students with Disabilities –

Posted on 14 April 2015 by Marian Padure

Where and when: Club Hall of the Academic College (1 E. de Martonne Street), 21 April 2015, 6pm-8pm. Admission is free.

Guest: Dr. Phil. Olga Meier-Popa, Director of the Disability Office of the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

Participants: administrative staff, teaching staff, researchers and UBB students (with and without disabilities), as well as UBB collaborators.

The UBB Office for Students with Disabilities operates within the UBB Rectorate’s organisational structure, with the objectives of facilitating and supporting the inclusion of students with special learning needs in university life, as well as informing teachers and students about accessibility and disability. BSD offers a series of educational events on physical and social accessibility, some of them with guest speakers from foundations, associations and institutions actively involved in ensuring a barrier-free life.

On 21 April 2015, for the first time at Babeș-Bolyai University, Mrs Olga Meier-Popa, Director of the Office for Students with Disabilities of the University of Zurich, Switzerland, will be present. The BSD of the University of Zurich, founded in 1976, is the oldest office of its kind in German-speaking Europe.  Its activities and achievements, as well as its working methods, have developed over the years within the specific social-political and legal framework. In the workshop Accessibility in the University, the procedures used in the BSD of the University of Zurich will be presented, as well as the perspectives of students with disabilities in a university that promotes accessibility in education and the principles of a life without social and physical barriers. At the end, possibilities for collaboration with the UBB BSD will be explored.

We look forward to seeing you.
