International Down Syndrome Day #MyFriendsMyCommunity

Posted on 18 March 2016 by Marian Padure

March 21 is declared World Down Syndrome Day. 21.03 = trisomy 21, meaning an extra chromosome next to the chromosome pair 21. World Down Syndrome Awareness Day will be marked by volunteers of the UBB Office for Students with Disabilities by participating in the interactive games programme with children and staff of Transilvania Special School, Baciu (Cluj-Napoca), from 10:30-12:00. The logo of this day is #MyFriendsMyCommunity.

BSD student volunteers, under the guidance of psycho-pedagogical teacher Melinda Boldi from Transilvania Special School (UBB alumni and BSD volunteer), will wear brightly coloured socks in the shape of chromosomes on their hands and engage in interactive games (drawings, interactions assisted by therapy dogs) with children with Down syndrome. The aim of this action is to promote diversity and raise awareness and information about Down syndrome, in an atmosphere of joy shared worldwide on this special day.

Where: Transylvania Special School, Baciu (Cluj-Napoca), Str. Transilvaniei, No. 390.
When: 21.03.2016 (Monday), between 10:30-12:00.
Details about the worldwide International Down Syndrome Day can be found here: https://worlddownsyndromeday.org/
