The BBU Office for Students with Disabilities operates within the BBU Rector’s office, with the objectives of facilitating and supporting the inclusion of students with diverse learning needs in university life, as well as informing teachers and students about accessibility and disability. In this direction, OSD offers a series of educational events on accessibility (physical and social), some of them with the participation of foundations, associations, and institutions (national and international) actively involved in ensuring a barrier-free life for people with disabilities.
On 22 October 2014, at 17:00, at the OSD headquarters, will take place the presentation seminar of DISTONIA Association, represented by Sorin G. Ionescu, BBU alumni, currently counselor on social issues in the Office for Students with Disabilities.
The aim of DISTONIA is to support disadvantaged people suffering from rare diseases and different types of disabilities in order to provide them with help and assistance, respecting their dignity without discrimination of any kind, i.e., regardless of age, gender, political or religious affiliation, social and/or material status. The main object of activity of the Dystonia Association now is to campaign for the acquisition of a fair and democratic status in terms of access to diagnosis and treatment for patients suffering from one of the forms of Dystonia. This disabling medical condition is part of the spectrum of movement disorders and is characterized in terms of symptomatic manifestations by involuntary, uncoordinated and uncoordinated movements and postures caused by dysfunctions in the pallidal globes of the brain.
More details about dystonia and ways of communicating with people diagnosed with different forms of it, you will learn at the BSD Social Evening on October 22, 2014.
